The word "Hagebutte", means rose hip in English. I chose this name for my shop as it pops up in a riddle song I sang to my toddler quite often. You can find the lyrics and notes above. If you would like to listen to the song, click the link below.
Further information on the song and title script:
The lyrics of the children's folk song were written by Hoffmann von Fallersleben, while he stayed with his friend Karl Milde. He wrote a total of fifty texts for children's songs while he stayed with him. The third verse, that reveals that the rose hip is meant, wasn't added until 1860. Most likely because many speculated and wondered what was even meant by the song. Later on the song became very popular. Engelbert Humperdinck used the song in 1893 for his fairy tale oper "Hansel and Gretel", which was sung by Gretel.
Sütterlinschrift (German pronunciation: [ˈzʏtɐliːnˌʃʁɪft], "Sütterlin script") is the last widely used form of Kurrent, the historical form of German handwriting that evolved alongside German blackletter (most notably Fraktur) typefaces. Graphic artist Ludwig Sütterlin was commissioned by the Prussian Ministry of Science, Art and Culture (Preußisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Kunst und Volksbildung) to create a modern handwriting script in 1911. The name Sütterlin is nowadays often used to refer to all varieties of old German handwriting, although only this specific script was taught in all German schools from 1915 to 1941.
My beloved Oma (grandmother) who was born May 1931 in Kassel, Germany learnt this script when she attended school. Unfortunately her schooling would come to a sudden halt October 1943 at just 12 years old when the bombs of WWII came crashing down on her hometown.
